Sparking Insights and Aspiration – Charting the Way for What’s Next
Your financial plan tells you what you have and how you or others use your funds.
Legacy Life Designing with a Catalyst and Coach helps you dig deeper for growing into the next chapter of life. We look at who you are now, who you are becoming, where you want to serve, and who you want to lift – all integral to the very real and personal part of your journey.
Your financial planner is helping you build your future in ways that ensure the numbers are in order – the financial projections are sound – the spending and distribution plan is solid.
But …somewhere in the conversations about asset allocation and withdrawal strategies, a different set of questions surfaces. Quieter ones. Harder to quantify.
| Questions like: Who am I when the title is gone? What will I do with my time — and will it matter to me? How do I want to be remembered — by my family, my community, the world I touched? Is this the life I actually want — or the life I defaulted into? |
These are not financial questions. They are human ones. And they deserve the same rigor, care, and intentional planning that your financial life has received.
That is exactly what my work as a Legacy Catalyst and Coach is designed to address.
THE FOUNDATION – Defining Legacy
Legacy is typically seen as a bequest – a tangible transfer of wealth. This Focuses on The What.
However, a humanistic addition breathes more life into what a holistic legacy looks like.
My take on this is that it is the transmission of character, values, and purpose from one generation to the next; it is the imprint of one’s life on the world that remains after the money is spent.— This focuses on The Who and The Why.
| Shannon L. Alder, a contemporary author and therapist inspires this reflection: “Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you.” |
WHO THIS IS FOR
Consider if…
| You are 5–15 years from retirement Enough time to design with intention, not scramble at the edge | Your financial plan is in good shape The numbers work. The human questions are just beginning. | You sense something is missing Not from your portfolio — from your picture of what comes next |
| Your identity is tied to your work And you are not sure who you are without it | You want to live purposefully Not just comfortably. Purpose and comfort are not the same thing. | Your planner referred you Because they understand that a full life plan requires more than numbers |
THE PROCESS
What the inner work looks like
We work together with conversations and tools that serve as Light and Insight Charting Points – facilitating insights for next steps. The conversations and activities provide tangible visuals – not something that disappears when a session ends. Throughout our work together, you build your Light and Insight Charting Points — a living record of what the inner process reveals, section by section.
| 1. The Harbor – Fixed Points Before We Set Sail | What is present now? What are your core values and how do you know? We surface what you have always stood for — the principles that have guided your best decisions even when you could not name them. We uncover values possibly hidden behind work responsibilities or external pressures. |
| 2. The Prime Meridian – Purpose and Meaning Beyond Work | For most people, work has been the primary container for purpose. We explore what purpose looks like when that container changes shape — and how to design a life in which meaning is not dependent on a job title. Family also holds purpose and meaning with transitions in career shifting your lens for the future |
| 3. The Currents – Passions, Curiosities, and Unrealized interests | What have you always wanted to explore but never had time for? What claims your attention even when no one is watching? These are not retirement hobbies. They are data points about who you are and what excites you? What makes your soul soar? |
| 4. The Horizon – Aspirational Visioning | We build a clear, grounded picture of the life you actually want to inhabit — not the one you defaulted into, not the one others expect, but the one that is genuinely yours. This becomes your navigational bearing for every decision ahead. |
| 5. The Navigational Chart – Legacy Design for Action | Implementing the vision requires a solid plan with direction and action. Being intentional by attending to what matters most and prioritizing the steps for living your best purposeful and meaningful life. |
FOR FINANCIAL PLANNERS
A referral partnership that elevates your client work
If you are a financial planner reading this, you already know what is true: the most meaningful conversations you have with clients are rarely about the numbers. They are about what the numbers are for.
Legacy Life Planning is designed to be a natural complement to your pre-retirement planning work. When a client begins to surface questions about identity, purpose, or what their retirement years will actually look like, that is the moment to bring in a different kind of expertise.
| What a referral partnership looks like: You continue your financial planning work as you always have. LightVision works alongside you on the human capital dimension — values, purpose, vision, identity, and legacy design. Your clients receive a more complete planning experience. You deepen the relationship and the value you offer at a pivotal life stage. An introductory Legacy Life Planning session is available as a standalone offering that planners can extend to clients directly — a meaningful added value at a defined fee. From there, clients may choose to continue the deeper work independently. |
DELIVERABLES
Every activity provides a visual element that is helpful as a stand alone insight and will be integrated throughout the Legacy Life Design sessions.
The culminating document – Legacy Chart of the Way – is a comprehensive map for navigating the life’s transitions.
The carefully crafted document is a robust tool – light for your vision – a compass for the journey for a purposeful and meaningful next chapter.
Keep as a reference whenever you face a conflicting decision that matters.
Begin the conversation
The Legacy Life Design starting point begins with a single conversation — an exploration of where you are, what you are sensing, and whether this work is right for you now or in the future. There is no obligation and no script. Just an honest conversation about what the next chapter could look like if you designed it with intention.
Your financial planner has helped you build a financial future for living and sharing.
